General

The installation timeline of the system is highly dependent on system size and location on the property. The pre-installation steps can also take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on third-parties. In many areas, the utilities and municipalities do this process all the time and can move very quickly. In others, this process is still new and will take longer. Installation could last from a few weeks to a few months, depending on system size.

There is a monetary value associated with every kWh produced by the solar system. Anything consumed by the customer is valued at the current utility rate. Every kWh generated by the solar system offsets a kWh a customer is required to purchase from the utility. In some states or utility territories, there are additional incentives for installing solar. These incentives could be state tax credits, upfront cash rebates, or performance-based incentives.

The life of a solar system is increasing with each generation of panels and inverters. Currently the expected usable life of a system is 30-40 years. Solar production from a panel will decrease over time, however, Panel performance is warrantied for 25 years.

Solar systems have three warranties: product warranties, power production warranties, and installation or workmanship warranties.

Solar is a simple, minimum-maintenance technology. Unlike other energy technologies, solar PV contains no moving parts. Annual preventative maintenance is recommended to ensure that the warranties remain active. Most of the preventative maintenance is performed on system inverters to ensure proper system operation.
